We are a small show breeder located in Grande Prairie, Alberta with an emphasis on breeding healthy and well-tempered puppies. Our goal is to occasionally produce top quality Havanese to be devoted family pets and show dogs. Our dogs are part of our family living in our home and participating in daily activities. They are affectionate companions that love to snuggle, play, and perform.
Each litter will be carefully planned to continue to preserve the breed with temperament, health and conformation being the priority. Puppies will not be produced often so it is of utmost importance to make each breeding the best possible.
Our Havanese have been very carefully chosen after extensive research. We are proud to have dogs from heavily championed lines but even more importantly than conformation titles are the records of generations of health testing available on the OFA website. Not only does it help us to make the best decisions in what we produce, it also gives families the extra knowledge they need to choose a healthy lifelong companion that conforms to the breed standard in temperament and structure.
Our Havanese will have will have passed all health testing before being bred. Our intent is to conform to the guidelines of the CKC breed standards for structure, movement and coat without sacrificing health or temperament.
Health is our number one priority and it is not taken lightly. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of having all the health tests documented on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website. Please take the time where ever you go to look into the health of the parents and grandparents to ensure you are buying a puppy that has a history of healthy lineage. Please remember that just because a breeder says they 'health test' does not mean it is actually done if it isn't on OFA. If you'd like to see health test results they should be available for you to see. Also, as we have experienced, it is always possible to buy a puppy with wonderful health history to find that the dog does not pass all the required tests. There is never a full guarantee that a dog will not inherit or develop any issues. Rest assured, we are doing our very best here at Chickadee Havanese and we back all our puppies with a genetic health guarantee to cover every puppy that we produce.
At the appropriate ages we test for hip and elbow dysplasia, patella luxation, Legg Calve Perthes Disease, hearing (BAER), and heart. Yearly eye exams are done by board certified specialists. All results will be registered and available for viewing on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website.
Chickadee Havanese has a bright and exciting future! Blessed beyond measure and more thankful than ever!
In Loving Memory of my mom who has joined the angels in heaven far too soon.
Forever loved, forever missed and until we meet again I take comfort in knowing where she is.
The Chickadee was her favorite little bird.
